Hollywood World War Movies Free Online! Watching movies "online free of charge" is a type of practice. Even for movies who have not even visited DVD yet you can find sites all around us where people can post movies to view that people have secretly taken a relevant video camera into a movie showing and recorded the complete movie on their computer. After that it just takes a search in the internet to get said movie. While the experience isn't same as paying for it and seeing it in the theater people that just want to go to a movie can discover myriads of places online to watch.
Even YouTube has places for fan videos that disguise themselves as places to view movies online. Piracy used to be getting bootleg copies of VHS tapes and DVDs but now movie piracy may be even harder to control thanks to the internet.
Financial Fallout
Movie piracy cost U.S. movie studios over 1.3 billion dollars in 2005 mostly due to internet in an article posted to Torrent Freak. A 2004 survey conducted by the Motion Picture Associated of America claims those of 3,600 online users surveyed 24 percent said they had downloaded a motion picture online in accordance with an article in PC World. Surely the numbers must be even more by now. Further, 69% of the respondents felt that downloading a motion picture online was not a "major concern."
More recently, downloading movies and streaming them to internet is indeed prevalent in Spain that that quantity of DVD stores has dropped 25% since 2003 and the illegal pirating of movies is threatening to end the DVD industry in Spain altogether. Business Insider quoted Michael Lynton of Sony as saying "Spain is on the brink of don't being a viable marketplace for us." This was in late March of 2010.
The problem in Spain may be a Catch-22. If DVDs are no longer sold in Spain then the market for pirated copies of movies may much more lucrative and pirates gets more creative plus much more ardent for your product. Just like making drugs illegal the demand won't disappear completely so prices will spike with an entire blackmarket may develop and things may get much more out of control.
Perhaps one more reason for piracy in addition to not spending money on expensive movie tickets is spoofed within this piece on Business Insider. Like movies inside theater, DVDs now have previews, trailers, and advertising with them. When you can watch a pirated copy without ads that simply simply grows to the movie without ten mins worth of advertising, maybe the feeling of apathy in our consumerist contemporary society is reaching a breaking point.
Anti-Piracy Measures
France and Britain are in the lead in anti-piracy measures. In a New York Times article in March of 2010, Parliament is for the verge of considering a law that could allow authorities to fully cut off internet connection to those who download movies illegally from the internet. France has already passed a law consequently but has yet to implement it. Civil liberties groups are watching regulations closely and are wary that the measure may go too far.
While these laws are built to protect a niche industry from losing money, again we should instead point to illegal drugs just as one mirror to movie piracy. The problem with drugs aren't the little time dealers that are trying to make an income when they have no idea of any other way but the large suppliers and drug cartels who give them the drugs in the first place. Movie downloaders are probably the same way. The problem mustn't be the people who watch free movies online for free but people who pirate the movies and put them around the internet within the first place. Cut off the head and the body dies.
In late March of 2010, The Hollywood Reporter posted a selective article stating how the US Copyright Group has sued over 20,000 torrent users for illegal piracy of movies. Another lawsuit is forthcoming that targets over 30,000 users for five particular movie titles. It appears the film industry is not taking this lightly.
New Formats
Blu-Ray discs and the new 3-D format can help to tackle the piracy condition in their own way. If a movie is being touted as only able to be noticed in 3-D it would be harder to get a copy of it straight away from a camera version taken in the movie theater. The DVD will be the only way to view it.
Another method to combat piracy would be to make online services for example Netflix cheaper. What you would lose in price might be made up for in volume. Perhaps making movie ticket prices a bit cheaper would help too. There are all kinds of things the film industry are capable of doing in order to combat piracy which includes nothing to do with filing case.
For all of these measures being taken to sue those that break the law you'll find always sites like YouTube that frequently can't keep up with illegal downloads. Episodes of shows, movies, plus much more can be found on sites like YouTube, Veoh, and LiveVideo all at no cost. Until those websites could be more vigilant about eliminating copyrighted content then people will continue to observe pirated videos.
On the whole, movie piracy is bad for your film industry as they lose money. The problem then becomes that when they can stem the piracy problem will movie ticket prices actually go down? Will online viewing services like NetFlix lower their prices if your movie industry is recouping this money? There has got a chance to be a give-and-take attitude about it problem. There has have got to be some incentive for users to require to pay for a movie. Spending money is always good to the economy even if it means spending money on enjoying a show.
Another step to consider is the current state with the economy. People are still hurting financially and may want to get things at no cost or little cost as long as possible. When that carrot goes away then the movie industry must accommodate lure those customers back to seeing movies otherwise the movie piracy problem will just acquire more creative instead of go away.
