Casualties Of War Movie Characters! Are you considering taking the leap and upgrading your DVD collection? This article suggests a couple of things you might want to consider prior to taking the Blu-ray plunge.
Developments in technology are improving our entertainment on a regular basis. New standards and devices allow films to get rendered in greater detail. Sound and color depth is richer than ever before. We can now try a cinematic experience with the comfort of our very own home.
There is simply one drawback to all of this. As the technology develops and new standards and formats are introduced you are left the need to buy the same films continuously. Anyone who painstakingly rebuilt their video collection on DVD knows exactly what I'm discussing.
With the advent of Blu-ray, containing emerged being a clear winner over HD DVD, were faced with just one more new format. If we want to enjoy well known films in high-definition then we're going to have get them all over again. The upside is the jump in quality for both picture and audio is just like the jump from video to DVD. Make no mistake Blu-Ray movies look much better than DVD movies.
Before you consider the upgrade to Blu-ray there are a few prerequisites. To really receive the best from this format you will want the following.
When you are looking for actually purchasing the individual films, you happen to be likely to encounter a couple of problems. For starters only a relatively small number of films are actually released on Blu-ray thus far. There are a lot of movies which may have not yet been released as Blu-ray discs along with the sad the fact is that many of them never will be. The more obscure the film, the less likely it will be re-released within the new format.
I still a large number of obscure fighting styles films on video which never made the transition to DVD. Sometimes even some of your favorite films slip through the cracks and the best you can do is record them on your PC or DVD recorder to produce DVD versions. This allows you to ditch the bulky videos but obviously it certainly can't improve the excellence of the picture or sound. In that regard the transition from DVD to Blu-ray is less painful. Many Blu-ray players can also be capable of upscaling DVDs and squeezing more quality from them. It is also worth indicating that some Blu-ray transfers are shoddily done and will not offer anything much at night quality of the upscaled DVD. It is definitely worth looking at some reviews before buying.
Another problem you may encounter while you look to rebuild your film collection on Blu-ray will be the old region nightmare. The world is divided into regions and players and discs derived from one of region are not supposed to operate in other regions. This allows distributors to create irritating differences in release dates and withhold titles from certain regions. In practice it is designed to allow for some localization in fact the region system is anachronistic and deeply annoying and it is well activity they ditched it. You may find your selected title can be obtained elsewhere but not in your region.
As with the DVD format there is always a way round this and you may find multi-region Blu-ray players. If you intend to import Blu-rays from other regions and then make sure the Blu-ray player you buy will enable you to watch them. Be careful if you select and read carefully because some of the multi-region Blu-ray players are strangely not multi-region for DVDs.
Having negotiated these pitfalls you'll probably be keen to locate an actual report on all the films released for the Blu-ray format. Check out the website High-Def Digest for such a list. Another website which aims to pay all Blu-ray releases and includes in depth reviews which discuss the film and also the quality of the Blu-ray transfer is Blu-ray.com. Both sites in addition provide a release schedule of what is in the future.
There a wide range of surprising omissions from the list of releases on Blu-ray so you might be in for the disappointment. Not many film fans can reconstruct their libraries completely on Blu-ray so at the moment hang on to your DVDs. As the new technology passes down in price and individuals adopt the hardware we can expect to see a lot more Blu-ray releases.
It can also be worth pointing out that physical discs aren't inside your watch high-definition films and another growing trend is made for people to download movies online. There are a number of online services that offer downloadable high-definition films which is something don't be surprised to see much more of as Broadband speeds and penetration still increase. With this in mind some Blu-ray players feature USB and storage device ports. This would let you transfer a motion picture from your computer for your Blu-ray player, although you will need to guarantee the file is in the correct format.
Many individuals prefer to plug our computers into our HDTV's and also the majority of models support this. However whether you'll need a PC next for your TV is determined by your tastes along with the layout of your house, and a Blu-ray player with USB or storage device functionality gives you an alternative.
There is not any doubt that for the majority of films the Blu-ray standard offers a significant improvement over DVD. The thing is Blu-ray discs tend to be more expensive and like DVDs they are going to get cheaper over time. These first Blu-ray releases are often bare-bones and there are likely being special editions and director's cuts in the future.
At the second I'd suggest handpicking a few of your favorite films and upgrading them. Keep the rest of your DVD collection and get new releases on Blu-ray. The two can coexist much more easily than video and DVD ever did.
