Hq Twilight Movie Stills! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is just two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered you a list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving uses a different twist. Neither is likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes with the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving and for any day with the year.

Big oil company propaganda which has a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one from the most lyrical American films available. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation inside United States National Film Registry from the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of an Cajun boy and his family, living around the bayous in ways of life that we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land for the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything much like it was, clean and unspoiled except that the family has a little more money. (Yes, it was funded by the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating down the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, with his pet raccoon. He never wears an existence preserver or shoes... doesn't even have a cell phone to speak to case he gets in danger. There is not much story, simply a celebration (such stunning white and black photography that you might well wonder what are the big deal is around color) of a way of life that is no longer with us.
All of the actors were amateurs, as well as for most, this was their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who totally boy, was moving into a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). He had a chance at fame in the movies, but he stayed where he was from and apparently knew growing up an appreciation of family (a relationship of over fifty years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story a proper free movie first of our most family-friendly holidays.

A monochrome silent film that ends using a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, exactly what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc on this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever produced. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died believing that the last copy was destroyed. In a little bit of weirdness that sounds more like a movie compared to the truth, a practically complete print was found in 1981 in a very janitor's closet of an Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that people can watch this magnificent film, on many lists from the greatest films in recent history, free of charge online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered a psychological breakdown throughout the making with this film, and she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared Falconetti's performance "may function as the finest performance ever concerning film."
There is much good talking about The Passion of Joan of Arc, this now free movie about the Internet. My favorite essay is simply by Matthew Dessem as part of his blog (here). I will include that a film that deals using a person who had such strong beliefs - and accepted the consequences - is definitely an appropriate film for Thanksgiving... or every day.
